The Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) is a leading centre for the contemporary arts and a venue for projects breaking through artistic boundaries. It is located in the former Congress Hall, a landmark building that was USA’s contribution to the INTERBAU 1957 building exhibition in Berlin.

The new logo refers to the architecture of the Congress Hall, with its combination of firm foundations and dynamic forms. This is complemented by an additional graphic element in the form of a ‘focal point’. This element highlights new views and offers changing perspectives – a distinctive metaphorical image for the approach of HKW.

The choice of colours and typography also draws upon the history of the Congress Hall building. The colours are based on the original palette of the interior, whereas the sans serif Fakt typeface is rooted in 1950s modernism with some contemporary twists.
